Every woman living with HIV deserves the right to make informed decisions about how to feed her child, free from coercion, discrimination, punishment, or fear.
Many of you will already be familiar with the important work of our partner, the HIV Justice Network (HJN), which has been leading the development of an international expert consensus statement affirming that there is no medical or scientific justification for coercing or punishing the infant feeding decisions of people living with HIV.
Now, we want to take this work further—together!
ICW Global, HJN, The Well Project, the Eurasian Women's Network on AIDS (EWNA), the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network (CLN), and ICW Latina are coming together to invite women living with HIV and our allies to participate in an international consultation to help shape the next steps in advancing breastfeeding rights and reproductive justice.
Your experiences matter. Your perspectives are essential. And your leadership will help shape the way forward.
What are women living with HIV experiencing when making decisions about breastfeeding? What barriers, discrimination, or coercion are women facing? What needs to change in healthcare systems, policies, laws, and communities to ensure that our rights are respected?
And most importantly, how can we work together to make that change happen?
We warmly welcome women living with HIV, including young women, as well as trans and gender-diverse people living with HIV, community advocates, healthcare providers, legal practitioners, researchers, and other allies committed to reproductive justice.
Three consultation sessions will be offered to accommodate participants across different regions, with virtual interpretation available through Wordly.
